"Alright, so I've only been using Pieces for a little over a week, but I'm already wondering how I managed without it. The snippet management is just... chef's kiss. My old system of random text files and hoping for the best? Gone. Being able to actually find and reuse my code quickly is a huge win.
And the Copilot? Man, that thing is smart. It's not just throwing random suggestions at you; it actually seems to get what I'm trying to do. It’s helped me untangle a couple of tricky bits and even just speeds up the everyday stuff. The whole thing just feels well-thought-out for devs." Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
"Honestly, not much to complain about so far, especially for just a week in. If I had to nitpick, maybe I'd love to see even more customization options for the interface down the line, but that's really minor. For what it does, it does it really well. No real roadblocks yet." I have been using Pieces for a while now, and I love it. I do have subscription to gpt, however, I mostly like local LLMs and sometimes different LLMs to check the performances. Pieces provide alternatives for accessing both GPT subscription and also local LLM. I do work with lots of code snippets as text notes, and pieces has become goto tool to add snippets and access them when ever needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Chrome extension for managing the code snippet is handy however has some issues with some code previews in sites. I had to disable them and use it manually most of the time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
I'm not the target for this software and yet it's super useful for me. I am a product marketer and work with a million projects at a time with lots of different people for each project and for me the workstream activity and captured context features are a godsend. The workstream captures all my actions and I can then summarize at the end of the day where I left each project so that when I pick it up again it's a quick reminder of the context and what are the next steps. Sometimes it closes and I'm not aware, like I won't remember closing it on purpose but when I go open the chat I see it's not open. Weird since when you start the mac it will open automatically (also you have to make sure you activate the long term memory each time that happens or when you update the software). But honestly, not that important. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
A versatile AI local server with the ability to access online servers such as chatGPT and claude, and of course local access to AI like LLAMA and Gemma for safe use and emphasize on privacy in work.
Coding, working with files, access in Windows, VScode and browsers, which greatly increases the speed of work.
It has been very useful for me and I am satisfied with the fact that I don't need to use dozens of other tools. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Higher speed in adding new local models can make it more practical Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Pieces for Developers shines in its Ease of Use and Ease of Implementation. The interface is user-friendly, making it easy to integrate into your workflow quickly. The tool offers a solid range of Features that streamline code management and collaboration, and the Ease of Integration with other tools is seamless. Customer Support is responsive and helpful, ensuring smooth operations. I use Pieces regularly because it simply works well and makes my coding tasks easier. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While the tool is generally excellent, there’s room for expanding its Feature Set to cater to more complex needs. Some additional advanced options would be a welcome addition. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Pieces for Developers streamlines code snippets, notes, and other resources, making it easy to save, search, and reuse them seamlessly. It enhances productivity by integrating with IDEs and offering intelligent recommendations, which simplifies the workflow and keeps everything organized in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
One downside of Pieces for Developers is that it can feel a bit resource-heavy at times, which may slow down performance, especially in larger projects. Additionally, the learning curve for some features might be steep for new users. More customization options could also enhance the experience.Another downside is that the "copy to clipboard" feature isn't as smooth or reliable as expected, which can be frustrating when trying to quickly transfer snippets or notes. As a student and career transitioner, Pieces has been immensely helpful when my other copilot options (ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) failed in understanding the context and providing code clarifications based on latest versions of frameworks I am using. The possibility to add code snippets from anywhere during browsing (Chrome) or to chat with a copilot to clarify unclear answers from online searches/forums. I use it frequently to refactor my codebase, to debug issues and for implementing commonly used code snippets. The setup was a bit complex for the first time I wanted to use. But Pieces provided installation guides and usage tips that came in handy to leverage the best out of this open source tool. The best part of it all - I get to choose the LLM engine I want to use and all my chats are localised. I hope this service remains approachable and open source to every upcoming developer! The only downside, which is minor, would be the processes consuming the CPU in the background during updates. I have the luxury to spare a few GBs in the memory but not every upcoming developer could afford that. However, I have seen reduced consumption of memory by the background processes since June. Copilot Chats: The integration of AI-powered chat, with options for both local and cloud-based LLMs - provides me with personalized asistance to my projects.
Context Awareness: I'm impressed by how Pieces automatically captures origin details and related context. This has been incredibly helpful when I need to revisit code or share it with teammates.
In-Project Snippet Discovery: This feature has been a game-changer for standardizing code across projects and quickly onboarding our new team members. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Complexity: I think the extensive feature set might be overwhelming for new users. A more streamlined onboarding process or a "basic mode" could help ease the learning curve.
Dependency on multiple components: The reliance on both Pieces OS and the Desktop App in addition to the VS Code extension feel cumbersome.
Pieces Fix - I used it several times - the fixes recommended are good , can copy paste them in my code - however if I use Accept Changes - it changes my code too much (including some indent problems appear). Would like the changes to be shorter - for example adding one import only in the beginning of code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Using Pieces now makes me wonder how I ever did development without it prior to using it. I love the all in one UI how I have everything I need to utilize within one window at my disposal. All of those years hunting down Stack Overflow and now we have essentially a development environment suited specifically for developers and engineers to keep focused on what matters most, the code! I have seen the AI, although thorough, get wacky sometimes and suggest un-necessary revisions or altercations within the code. Sometimes the search query may need refined, but overall - they have really hit the nail on head with this Suite. I'm in love!! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
Pieces for Developers is an incredibly efficient tool for organizing and managing code snippets. The seamless integration with popular IDEs and the ability to quickly save and retrieve code snippets directly from your workspace have significantly streamlined my workflow. The smart search feature is a standout, making it easy to find exactly what I need, even in large libraries of snippets. The intuitive user interface and tagging system also enhance productivity, helping me stay organized without any hassle. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
While Pieces for Developers excels in many areas, there are occasional performance lags when dealing with larger snippet libraries. Additionally, the learning curve for new users can be a bit steep, particularly when trying to fully leverage all the advanced features. A more robust set of tutorials or in-app guidance could help users unlock the full potential of the tool more quickly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
